Coach vs. GPS: The art of getting you to your destination without telling you to turn back, except in an emergency!

I'll start with a confession: I have no sense of direction. But really none. Those who know me know this very well, certainly they have already paid the price at my side. To give you an idea, one day, I was tasked with helping a bus driver find the entrance to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal during an organized outing with work. Bad idea. Very bad idea. I was swimming because I was so stressed, I could see the time passing and I was no longer able to know if we were going in circles. My boss turns to me and says: "Audrey when you told me you didn't have a sense of direction, I didn't realize it was that bad".
Thirty minutes later, after pacing the length and breadth of the stadium, we were still lost. Fortunately, I managed to reach a person in charge of the event who finally came to help us to guide us safely. This anecdote makes me smile today, but it also inspired me to make a simple and powerful comparison: a performance coach is like a GPS.
Getting Started and Destination
A GPS always starts by asking for a destination. You can ride aimlessly, but without a destination, GPS has nothing to offer you. With a coach, it's the same. The starting point of coaching is to clarify your goals: where do you want to go? What do you want to accomplish? Together, we work to define clear and achievable goals. This initial step is essential, as it gives meaning and direction to the entire process.
Flexibility
In life, as on the road, the unexpected happens. Sometimes you decide to change your itinerary. Maybe a path looks more promising or an obstacle forces you to take a detour. The GPS doesn't judge you. It adapts and will always recalculate a new route to take you to your destination. This is exactly what a coach does: when your priorities or goals change, the coach adjusts and continues to accompany you on your new path.
Real-time suggestions and insights
A GPS isn't just a tool to tell you where to turn. It also warns you of upcoming slowdowns, traffic jams, roadworks and even speed cameras. In the same way, a coach helps you identify the obstacles that could arise on your way: lack of time, fear of failure, self-doubt. With this information, you can make more informed decisions and move forward with more peace of mind.
Constant readjustments
Life is never a linear journey. There are unforeseen events, opportunities and challenges. The GPS, just like a coach, will not abandon you if you miss an outing or if the originally planned route becomes impassable. Together, you reassess the situation and adjust your itinerary to keep moving forward.
Driver autonomy
Finally, whether it's with a GPS or a coach, you're always the one behind the wheel. The GPS can suggest, warn and recalculate, but in the end, it is the driver who decides whether to turn left or right, accelerate or slow down. With a coach, it's the same: you're always in control of your decisions and actions. The coach is there to support you, encourage you and provide you with the tools you need to achieve your goals.
Why buy a "human GPS"?
Life is a journey, sometimes chaotic, often unpredictable, but always filled with possibilities. Having a performance coach is like having a high-precision GPS by your side: you are guaranteed to have adaptive, clear and needs-oriented support.
Today, thanks to technology, I can travel all over the world without ever getting lost... as long as I have my GPS! So, get ready to enter your destination and let me help you reach your full potential, no matter which roads you choose to take.
